Critical Illness Insurance: Protecting Your Assets
In our lifetimes, we have about an 82% chance of suffering a heart attack, stroke, kidney failure, paralysis, needing a major organ transplant or developing life-threatening cancer. If one or more relatives have suffered one of these health events, our chances are increased even more because of heredity.

Heart attacks or other coronary illnesses strike someone in America every 29 seconds. Stroke — the leading cause of long-term disability in the U.S. — occurs every 53 seconds.

Too many people find out too late their major medical insurance, and even disability insurance, will not cover all their expenses. Will your major medical plan pay for the intensive home care you might require? What about paying for a ramp you might need to have built at your home to accommodate a wheel chair? Or, when you've exhausted your savings to pay for medical expenses not covered by your health insurance, will your disability insurance be enough to cover your house payment, car payment, or, well, other debts you have?

Keep in mind the money -- and you determine when you apply how much that is* -- is paid to you at the time of diagnosis, and it is paid in a tax-free, lump sum amount. The best part is, if you suffer one of these events and it is fatal, the money is still paid to your beneficiary.

Now, there’s a policy that can bridge that financial gap. Critical Illness insurance. It's a relatively new concept in America, but one that has been around the world for a long, long time. In fact, it was developed by a South African heart surgeon some two decades ago.
